Course No. BEL11
Basic Electricity - I
Description:
A practical course that begins with the concepts of voltage, current, and the interaction of electrons in conductors and insulators. Discussions of resistors, capacitors, inductors, fuses, wires, their sizes and ratings allow the participant to evaluate circuits using common circuit laws, such as Ohm's law, etc. While discussing basic circuit elements, the participant will also be taught practical fault detection and the troubleshooting of circuits and electromechanical devices. This includes open circuits, faulty grounds, floating grounds, and circuit interrupts. Included are the effects of off-normal voltage conditions, corrosion, excessive heating, etc. The course also includes instruction on the reading electrical schematics. Electrical safety is stressed. The class includes hands on use of a multi-meter, and includes building and testing of simple circuits. This class includes an optional exam. This class is a pre-requisite for Basic Electronics II.
