General Description:

This hands on workshop takes off from where we left during SPC Intermediate. It starts with a close look at isolating Critical Variables - those that will benefit the most from Control Charts.  Control Chart theory is covered at an advanced level, as such Common and Special Causes are discussed at length.  The Corrective Actions required for each are also covered in depth - to equip the participant with the knowledge for recognizing errors in the same early on.  Additionally, the participant gets a more thorough understanding of when is is appropriate to change control limits. Short Run Control Charts are introduced, and their differences from traditional Control Charts are discussed.  It is highly recommended that the participant get a fair amount of experience in the implementation of SPC before they sign up for this SPC Training workshop.

Topics Covered:

  1. Identifying Critical Variables
  2. Strengths and Weaknesses of Different Control Charts
  3. Recognizing and Correcting Errors in Control Charts
  4. Ramifications of Incorrect Interpretations, and Incorrect Corrective Actions
  5. Traditional and Short Run Control Charts - Comparisons
  6. Constructing and Interpreting Short Run Control Charts
  7. Concepts in Data Transformations
  8. Control Charts with Transformed Data
  9. Process Capability and Anticipated Defects
  10. Participant Projects

What You Will Learn:

  • Techniques to Identify Critical Variables
  • Common Mistakes in Building and Interpreting Control Charts
  • Common vs. Special Causes, and Consequences of Mistaking One for the Other
  • Applying SPC Under Short Production Run Conditions
  • Dealing with extremely Non Normal Data
  • Calculating Process Capability, and Predicting Defect Rates

Participants:

Maximum number of participants = 20, Minimum = 10

Books and Materials:

Provided by TEAM 2000

Room Setup and Supplies Required:

  • Preferred seating for the participants is in U shape so all participants can interact easily
  • An open area of about 8' x 20' is needed to setup and run experiments / simulations
  • Supplies for the simulations are provided by TEAM 2000
  • Ideally there should be one computer per participant, however, the class is do able with three
participants sharing one computer.  Excel software is required
  • If the client cannot provide computers, TEAM 2000 can provide laptops for a small rental fee
  • In absence of computers calculators may be used; the pace of the class will be slower, and some topics
